I have the most incredible view of the sunsets every night.  Some nights they are clouded by clouds.  Some are soft and sweet.  And then…some are dramatic!  This picture was one of those dramatic sunsets and although I could see the piercing red in the picture, I could not see it with my naked eyes.  I knew God was was sending me a message.

God had created a SWORD with the sunset and it was right in front of me.  Because of my many years studying His word, I knew that the sword was a symbol.  I knew He was stating that although I could not see Him or understand what was happening at times – He was still there.  He was fighting my battles behind the scenes!

The sunset sword was God’s way of saying – use my sword!  Way before we had weapons to protect us — we had God’s word!  You see in the Bible, it states many times that the Sword of the Spirit (that spirit inside of you) is the Word of God.  You can fight your battles by using His word.  That’s more powerful than any weapon formed by man.  It can send an enemy fleeing and running for the hills — just by speaking His beautiful words.

I know — without a doubt — many of you reading this post are struggling with a battle.  It might be a wayward child; a business deal gone bad; a marriage issue; an illness; and/or the crime and misdemeanors happening in our country.  There are so many battles and we need to learn to fight these battles with the right tools.

In Philippians 4:6 it states, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with THANKSGIVING, present your requests to God.”

Notice the word, Thanksgiving!  In order to stay at peace during your battles, you need to give God Thanks for it. (crazy as it sounds — it works)   He is refining you and making you stronger.  I’ve been in battles that were so fierce I just knew I would die.  But I didn’t.  I’m here today writing you and letting you know — I’m much stronger now than ever before.  The battles make you stronger, my friends.  I hate battles but now I know how to fight them — with His words!  When an enemy shows up – I go straight to the Bible and He leads me to my battle plan.

If you are one in the battle, why not open up that ragged old Bible (or the new one that has been untouched for many years) — and start reading out the words on the page.  Say them out loud.  It may seem strange to walk around your home or your office with a Bible in your hand reading the words out loud — but who cares — if you want to win, you have to do what’s uncomfortable at times.  You know that, right?

If you are feeling weak and weary from the battle, find your power today.   It’s inside that Bible.  If you don’t know where to start — just ask God to show you the words He has for you specifically.  I have found when I am searching for advice, I go to the book of Proverbs.  It was written by King Solomon – known to be the wisest of all Kings.  This book offers advice on how to conduct ourselves in various situations of every day life.  They may have been written thousands of years ago but they still apply to today — even in these nasty times!

Want to hear a few Sword statements from heroes of the Bible:

“Reckless words pierce like a SWORD, but the tongue of the wise brings healing.”  – Solomon

“Do not think that I came to bring peace on the earth; I did not come to bring peace, but a sword.” – Jesus

“Arise, O LORD, confront him, bring him low; Deliver my soul from the wicked with Your sword,” – King David

Many think the Bible is for weaklings and I am here to tell you — it is filled with strong warriors and women of beauty and strength.  It is the most interesting book you will ever read.  War stories, romance, wise sayings — it’s got it all.  Everything you need for the battles you face and for finding peace as you walk your path of life.  Don’t fear that Bible — be strong – be bold – pick it up and find the power!  You just might become a Warrior or a Woman of Strength and Dignity!

Get that Bible out and read it at the Thanksgiving table.  Your family may think you’ve lost your mind and I say — “you’ve found your power!”

I send you love and I’m thankful to know you!  Happy Thanksgiving friends.
